You work with
the people who
do the work

No account managers, no junior hand-offs, no telephone game. The Notus is a Tampa studio led by Steve Canfield, a builder and your fractional CTO, plus a small bench of trusted designers and specialists brought in when a project calls for it. One principal, one trusted bench. You always talk to the person doing the work.

001 / Who you'll work with

One principal. One bench.

The name on every project
Steve Canfield, Founder and Principal Engineer of The Notus
Founder & Principal Engineer

Steve Canfield

Steve is the one in the code. He has designed and shipped four products end-to-end. Two are his own, live and taking orders: Song Cage, a songwriting app across web, iOS, Android, and DAWs, and The Curious Thing, AI-personalized photo puzzles for kids. Two were client builds as a fractional CTO, taken from AI-built starting points (Lovable, Cursor, Bolt, Replit, Claude, Gemini) to real production: Cardify, an AI trading-card marketplace, and Pulse, an AI business-intelligence platform across 107 verticals.

When you hire The Notus for engineering, you hire Steve. He makes the architecture calls, writes the code, and is the person on the other end of the call. He works across the full modern web, mobile, and AI stack, and picks the right tools, frameworks, and models for each build rather than forcing every project through the same one.

002 / How the studio actually works

Principal-led, senior-only, with a bench

The honest answer to "is it just one person?"
No agency overhead

Small on purpose. The founder who scopes your project is the one who builds it.

We are not an agency funnel and we do not pretend to be bigger than we are. One principal carries the work, and when a project genuinely needs another set of hands, we bring in vetted designers and specialists we have worked with before, and we tell you exactly who is doing what. You never get handed to a junior you never met or a team you never speak to.

Let's talk about what you're building.

From a one-off architecture or code review, to a fractional-CTO push to production, to a full custom build. Tell us the repo, the URL, or the idea, and you'll hear back from Steve, not a form.
